I am SO sorry that I did not get this posted on time! What with all the "Blizzard of 2011" preparations, I totally lost track of time. Here's my photo of "NEW" for this week's photo challenge.
I should probably clarify the crudeness of this photograph, but this is the "new" I have been consumed with for the past two days. See, tomorrow's weather forecast for most of the state of Alabama is SNOW...It will only be 4-8" at most, but in Alabama that brings entire counties to a stand still. I know, that sounds ridiculous to many people, but since snow is such an infrequent event here, Alabamians are not prepared very well for it. We don't have salt for the roads making travel extremely dangerous--even for those few who actually know how to drive with the snow/ice conditions. Road conditions also compound the problem of workers repairing downed powerlines due to heavy snow &/or ice on them or on trees that proceed to fall on them. This brings a near certain guarantee that power will be out for at least a day and often up to a week. So, people "go crazy" to buy up all the supplies to get through several days with no power. I am unsure where the notion originated that everyone must run out and buy extra milk & bread, but it has become almost a joke of sorts to quickly go buy milk & bread as soon as there is even a mention of snow.
Here, you can see we did our duty in the milk & bread purchasing, as well as picking up some snack food (pretzels!) and a heater for a propane tank should we indeed find ourselves power-deficient. ;-)
I hope to do much better for next week's challenge, which coincidentally is "white"...like snow!
